Hope it's Lewis Hamilton, they're not going to have 2 Spaniards at Mclaren with De la rose and Alonso are they? Also Garry Paffett's an outisde option, any other ideas?

I think Ron Dennis will keep us all guessing until after the new McLaren-Mercedes is launched and all his drivers have put some mileage on it. However, he may surprise us by making the announcement even before the first post-season test.

Unless something really strange happens, and I don't think it will, the competition for that second seat is between Pedro de la Rosa, Gary Paffett and Lewis Hamilton. Pedro hasn't been spectcacular and Paffett's star seems to have faded a bit, so I'm almost positive it will be Hamilton as partner for Fernando Alonso in 2007.

McLaren Mercedes has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will partner Fernando Alonso for the 2007 Formula One season.

The 21-year-old Briton has long been linked to the seat and has been given the nod over Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett, both of whom will continue as test drivers with the team next year.

Couldnt care less as a Ferrari fan but if Macca have any sense they will pick pedro because throwing Lewis in at the deep end will either make him or break him and Macca want to win the titles so banking on a guy who has never raced at certain venues in a car thats completely new to him is asking too much of Lewis Hamilton plus Ron Dennis would look such a burke after having funded his whole carrear for Hamiltion to give an impression to the viewing racing public that he is crap when in fact Hamilton isnt that bad its just too much was being asked of him.

He is McClarens nest egg coming to fruition but he wont mature for another year maybe even two if he has problems and is slow as a Friday tester (which is the role he should be given as a Man Friday and nothing more) for one year at least

It will make McClaren stronger Lewis stronger Pedro does a filling in job Alonso makes Macca his own team by being the clear number one over Pedro so that when Hamiltion comes in for the 2008 season (probably) then he will know his place firmly Fernando will be used to the Macca and Lewis has a years experience

Meanwhile Kimi sticks two fingers up to Mercedes and Ron Dennis by taking the world title after Ferrari trounce the field like they did with Schumi and Rubinho in 2004 but Massa and Kimi will be much closer that Schumi and Rubinho was but it will still be a Ferrari domination as every other team including Macca and Reanult are in trasition Ferrari waltzes away :D hehe

I think it will be de la Rosa, because thelast time Ron Dennis put his money on a youngster (Michael Andretti) it ended pretty much in disaster for his team.

And to dj don: I see you're angry because your favorite retired driver lost twice in the last two years.

But unfortunately, the announcement has come. Lewis Hamilton is the second driver at McLaren.

Lewis Hamilton and Pedro de la Rosa will have to wait until mid-December to find out who has secured a 2007 McLaren race-seat alongside Fernando Alonso.

lewis hamilton and mika hakkinen to share it, he made news that he wanted to come back with williams but was moved out

if cars good, he may want to extend his new 'relationship' with mclaren to a few races

with schumi gone, it a chance to win another championship as well, or build for one next year
