Major McLaren sponsor Santander, a Spanish bank, is to switch allegiances to Ferrari for 2009 and beyond, according to reports

German magazine Sport Bild claims that the deal is worth up to 25 million euros per season, and could involve the driving services of former double world champion Fernando Alonso.

Santander began sponsoring McLaren last year, coinciding with 26-year-old Alonso's multi-season contract to race with the Mercedes-powered outfit.

Its all about money and sponsorship

Who would Alonso replace ?

As Kimi is under contract .... unless he or Massa stay on as testers ??

I think Alonso maybe better suited to HONDA ? with the Brawn leadership

Whom knows ??

Alonso is a leader, and Ferrari needs a strong leader after Schumi has left....we can see that Maasa and Kimi are both on the same step.....it would be amazing if Fernando would move to Ferrari, which means he would win the championship again, and show he talent even more....but then this means Ice-man Kimi will need to make some room....I can hardly picture Fernando and Kimi in the same team....

I hope he does. He's a great driver.

Kimi and Alonso in the same team is thought to be unlikely by many, but judging by Ferrari's strategy at Silverstone, anything seems possible!

As for the driver equality policy, I think Ferrari are quite serious about it - I mean, Kimi and Felipe are equal on points at the moment - this would never have happened when Michael was still around.

The Santander-Ferrari- Alonso link seems very plausible.

Bring it on, I say!

Fred is a good driver but he burned a lot of potential bridges with the way he threatened/extorted McLaren last year. Ferrari will still be one of the top three teams next season and so they don't need to take the kind of risk that is involved in hiring Fred as a driver.

Alonso has been linked to Ferrari anyway and he has hinted he would want to drive for Ferrari.

I think Alonso would be a great choice for Ferrari, I don't think they're the sort of team who can have two competitive drivers, they seem to need a team leader, one they can focus their efforts on, one that would pull them forward.

I sense they are not going to keep it together for too long, living on borrowed time from Schumis' legacy, so they need a strong personality in the cockpit.

Alonso is a keen individual and a double world champion, I think he would be perfect for Ferrari and the Tifosi and they would be perfect for him.

Although Alonso undoubtedly wants to go to Ferrari, I'm sure one of the persuading factors would not be advertising.

If Alonso does go to Ferrari the drivers are going to busy considering Kubica is supposed to be going there and Raikonnen and Massa aren't supposed to be moving anytime soon.

He will go to Ferrari if 1) Renault dont produce a world beating car and also 2) if they can make room. Problem is I cant see them dropping Massa or Kimi.
